Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS): Systemwide Training
This class brings together State FARS personnel, NHTSA regional representatives, FARS training contractors, and NHTSA headquarters managers, and includes:
- Coding FARS cases;
- Entering cases into the microcomputer data entry (MDE) system;
- Taking refresher computer-related courses.
During this training participants will:
- Receive extensive training in coding FARS cases
- Discuss quality control issues
- Discuss ways to improvement FARS
- Discuss updates to the MDE system, FARS Intranet, and/or FARS Web Encyclopedia
- Address current issues and challenges that may affect the FARS program
Also discussed are current issues and challenges affecting the FARS program, best practices and successful strategies, and highlights about timely and accurate FARS data. Computers preloaded with the MDE system and ability to access the FARS Intranet and FARS Web Encyclopedia.
All FARS analysts and supervisors are required to attend the training under the terms of the State-signed FARS cooperative agreement. There is no option allowing supervisors not to attend; however, some States have more than one supervisor; therefore, headquarters staff encourage all to attend. At least one FARS supervisor should attend.
Costs
Travel costs to be reimbursed under the FARS cooperative agreements; all expenses must be associated with attendance for the duration of the system-wide training.
