Technical Assistance Subcommittee
GOAL
Enhance traffic records knowledge, skills and best practices at the federal and State level through training and technical assistance.
OBJECTIVES
- Provide a shared inventory of current traffic records related training and projects and plans for sustaining it.
- a. Within US DOT- top priority
- b. US DOT and other federal agencies-longer term objective
- Make recommendations to the DOTTRCC Executive Chairs to improve the level of coordination of traffic records training and technical assistance related issues among agencies.
- Develop inventory of assessments of State traffic records programs, and examine possible coordination and cooperation among DOT administrations.
TRAINING SUPPORT
- Inventory existing training courses among member agencies
- Share with members current training available
- Query members to determine training needs
- Determine feasibility of coordinating the development of common training courses to serve multiple agencies
- Identify projects that impact across agency boundaries and monitor progress on those projects
- Develop a process for determining which projects to report to the US DOT TRCC (projects will be vetted through EC for final approval)
- Establish a mechanism for reporting and sharing with the DOT TRCC
- Suggested projects to report on for short term may include:
- Crash Data Improvement (FHWA)
- Traffic Records Performance Measure (NHTSA)
- Model E-Crash Data Collection (NHTSA)
- State Data Quality Improvement (FMCSA)
- Crash Accountability (FMCSA)
- Once projects are presented develop a project status reporting mechanism to provide updates and keep members informed of status/progress. Will include but not be limited to brief description of effort, funding, location of effort, project manager etc.
